John Surman — Way Back When
Unissued (released by Mole Jazz UK); Cuneiform Rune 200

recorded October 7, 1969: Tangerine Studios, London, England
Marshall, John (drm), Odgers, Brian (eb ab), Osborne, Mike (as #2-3), Surman, John (bs ss bcl), Taylor, John (ep)

1) Way Back When — JSurman 21:37
2) Owlshead — JWarren 13:54
3) Out and About — JSurman 8:20

Note: This CD was taken from master tapes that produced a circulated test pressing. Information on recording dates and material presumably came directly from John Surman, contradicting sources for the test pressing. The bassist Brian Odgers is elsewhere referred to incorrectly as Odges (most famously on John McLaughlin's Extrapolation. It has been confirmed his name is Odgers) "Out and About" is clearly "Glancing Backwards" from Where Fortune Smiles. It has been confirmed by Dan Kurdilla of the Unpopular Music Page that "Owlshead" is another arrangement of "Perkin's Landing" from Norma Winstone's Edge of Time. See below.
